200 Series Bridge Pins Question
« on: November 10, 2016, 12:58:38 PM »
I know this has been asked before and I tried a search with no luck.  I picked up a new 210e DLX this week and I have a set of Taylor ebony bridge pins laying around.  Will these replace the plastic pins without doing anything to the holes?  I could wait until time to change the strings but I'm impatient.  :D

Here's the most recent forum thread I know of on the topic; it was discussing the use of wooden bridge pins on the GS Mini and 114, but the findings would apply to the 200 Series guitars as well.  I suggest you read it all the way to the end, since the findings seemed a bit mixed.

Thanks for the link.  Come to think of it, I bought these to use in my Mini and never tried them.  Guess we will see what happens with the 210.

No can do on mine.  Everything was good until I started to bring the string up to pitch and the pins would not stay down.  No big deal.  It's still a great guitar.

Too bad.  I'd always thought the ebony pins had a thinner shaft than the plastic ones, but some folks seemed to manage to make them work.

Did you make sure you "seated" the ball ends by pulling up on the strings before threading them through the machine heads? You can also press the pin back down when tuning up after a restring. If they fit when you first placed them in with a loose string, then they should fit when done. Check out this vid by Taylor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKwasgm1Y3g

They were seated.  I know the sound an feel when they seat and I pushed them down when they started to raise as I brought the string up to pitch.  They were not going to stay down.  Like timfitz63 said, the shaft on the ebony pins must be a fraction smaller than the plastic ones.
