114 to 114e ?
« on: September 22, 2016, 03:55:11 AM »
I have a 114. Is it possible to fit the new electronics to it ?

Is it the ES 2 I'm thinking of ?

Thanks :)

That sounds expensive, Taylor will upgrade ES1 to ES2 for a couple of hundred dollars but that doesn't involve drilling holes in the body to mount the preamp knobs or the battery box. I'd have thought you'd be better off looking at an aftermarket pickup.
Others on here will be more qualified than me to advise you on those.

Thanks Craig,

Just curious if it has or can be done.

It can be done, but I agree with Craig that an after market pickup would be a better choice. I have had the LR Baggs Lyric system installed in a few of my non- ES Taylors with stellar results.
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

Had you thought of upgrading to a 214 or 314 with factory electronics???

No

Can't justify the cost.

A 114 sounds as good or better than a 314 to my ears.

Hi Paul,

If Taylor will do it on a 114, the cost will be the full retail price of the ES2, plus shipping. Not sure what your needs are, but as a less expensive alternative, you might consider a K&K Mini.

Hi Ted,

Thanks for the info.

It's such a great guitar I thought it would be nice if I could upgrade it with original Taylor gear.

Not to worry, I'll look at some of the other options out there.

The K&K Mini for example.

Cheers :)
