Hello from Qingdao, China!
« on: January 06, 2012, 09:00:16 PM »
Hi all.... nice to find a bunch of Taylor enthusiasts in one place!

I live in Qingdao, China and have been playing guitar for over 30 years, more passionate about it now than ever before especially since I got my 1st Taylor in 2006... a beautiful GSRC. I also have a 354ceL30 and a Baby Mahogany (which I keep in my workshop and play every lunchtime).

I have very diverse musical tastes and play with a plectrum 90% of the time, kind of strumming/flat picking hybrid style. I also love to sing and play at the same time!

As a long term member of another awesome acoustic guitar forum, I expect to see more than a few familiar names here  ;)

Cheers,
Bong

Welcome, Bong!  I see that you have a 354ce L30. My daughter has a 614ce L30. I imagine you have some special 30th anniversary inlays/rosette on your guitar? I have never seen a 300 series L30 before and would be very intertested in seeing some photos sometime if you every want to post them.

This is the only pic I have of mine, which doesn't really show the inlays.

But there are some nice pics of a 354ce L30  http://www.tfoa.eu/the_store/index.php?target=products&product_id=34120

I opened this thread prepared to tell you that no introduction would be complete without a certain memorable picture of you.

Then, I saw your avatar.

You've outdone yourself, sir.

I noticed that avatar. I'm guessing that there is an interesting story of some sort associated with that picture?

Bong - thanks for the photo and link. I'll be checking it out momentarily :)

Oh dear  :-[ Ms. spieler has let the cat out of the bag now!

It's all rather embarrassing really... I'll have to put together a personal hall of shame collage... sometime. Basically it comes down to my forays into amateur dramatics. When I'm not learning to play the guitar.. I'm usually to be found learning my lines.

Let's pretend I didn't say anything, and your avatar is a picture of you relaxing at home, just another normal evening (for you).

Better?

hi Bong,

good to see you here :)
i was wondering if there is a story behind the pattern of your
soundport & the inlays on the truss rod cover you've shared -
the design looks quite intricate & unique (a vertical palindrome)

i used to have a 314cL30 i liked &, to me, the tone & weight
was very simillar to tropical mahogany ... pretty inlays too

thanks for sharing - enjoy the place :D

WELCOME !
it's not about what you play,
it's all about why you play ...

Pretend! Oh yes I love to pretend, that's what acting is all about you know. Now, who's going to direct? How do you want me to approach the characterisation? What about the blocking? When do rehearsals start?

Bong.

@michaelw:

Hi Michael... the design is an ambigram of the letters S and F which are the initials of my real name Simon Fox.

It's nice to be here and I'm already enjoying the place!

Yes, there is a BEAUTIFUL HOLE in your guitar. And the matching TRC you showed in another pic you posted (I believe on the TRC thread started by John 429?) is equally beautiful. What a cool design you created, and I assume, since the TRC was fabricated by you personally, that the sound port shown here was also fabricated by YOU? Wow, what a cool design AND great craftsmanship. Kudos!
