I'm new to UTGF but not Taylor
« on: February 29, 2016, 02:07:55 PM »
Just want to introduce myself. I've owned my 79 Taylor 510 for over 35 years. I was a guitar repairman in a little guitar store in Reseda, CA. when the guys from Taylor came in the owner of the store was impressed with the quality for the price and asked my opinion I said "yeah, these are nice" so he ordered a few in. I really liked the sound and action of the 510 we got in but it sold immediately. The next one we got in was not the same so I passed. A few months later I'm informed that the first Taylor 510 that was sold came back in on trade. The owner told me I could buy it for $300 but I was going through a divorce and didn't have the extra cash. The next week the owner comes into the repair area and says that Jackson Browne is out front looking for a old Danelectro 6 string bass, which I happen to have, and do I want to sell it. I told him to tell Jackson  that I have one and I want $300 for it. He could get the cash out quick enough and I sold it and bought the 510..The Danelectro I had I bought for $32. But everyone was happy and it compliments my 1949 D-28. Unless I'm destitute I will never sell it or someone offers a lot of cash for  Ser# 911. Thanks for reading..JR

Welcome. Love the story.  Reminds me of when I bought my Martin 2-17 -- the dealer of this vintage guitar boutique told me the Rolling Stones had seen the guitar on his website and had asked for the dealer to send it to their hotel in NYC.  Guess dealer went for the bird in the hand..........

Nice tale - welcome to the forum.  I know we can't talk $$$ on here, but I'm curious what a '79 510 is worth today.  Has it crossed over from "used" to "vintage"?

Welcome to the Forum 79Taylor510.  Interesting story.  I imagine that is one of the oldest Taylors here on the forum.
