Hello from Orange County
« on: January 01, 2012, 07:43:44 PM »
I'm Chris, a long-time AGF member. I live in Orange County, California, a short hop from Disneyland and about two hours north of El Cajon.

I don't think Taylor is the be-all and end-all of guitars, but I have three that I'm very happy with, including a Lemon Grove 615 and a more-or-less custom 355. I haven't played much this past year due to a bad case of tennis elbow in my strumming arm that I was foolish enough to ignore for too long. But I'm a perpetual intermediate, so I don't expect too much trouble getting back on that horse when the elbow heals.

Anyway, it's good to be here. I don't spend as much time on forums as I used to, but it's good to have another to visit.

Glad to have you Chris!  Make yourself at home!   ;D

Being so close to Taylor...have you been able to take a tour?

I've been on the tour three times, including the added-features tour of Taylorstock back in '02. I haven't been down there for a while, but that's one of those things that life has a habit of pushing to the wayside. The last time I was there, I think they were still building the Baby models in El Cajon.

Welcome, Chris! I am so jealous that you have been able to take the Taylor factory tour three times - wow! Living on the other side of the country, I have never had a chance to do that but would love too. I have watched all the videos of the tours though! Really glad you're here :)

Welcome Chris. :) Must be nice to live close enough to tour the Taylor factory...SEVERAL TIMES!!! ;D

I've suffered from tennis elbow in both arms and had surgery on the right one in 2009. It's been a problem since 2007. I sure hope yours doesn't get anywhere near as bad as mine!

Heya, Chris.

It's good to hear from you. I still think of you with gratitude every time I wear one of my Tilley hats, for true.

Hi Chris! Good to see you here, my friend. Sorry to hear about your tennis elbow though. Can you play fingerstyle without pain? Hope so. I know how much I would miss my personal music therapy sessions with a guitar in my lap if I couldn't play!

I think you'll like it here as well. It has a lot of the same feel as the early days of the original unofficial Taylor Guitar Forum. Nice, close community!

Good to see you here, Chris. I remember meeting you at a gathering over at Russ & Twyla's place. It was the day I stopped by Buffalo Brothers on the way up and bought my 12-string. I'll always remember your word of encouragement when you asked how much I bought it for. But I'll also self-censor!  :D

Thanks, Cotten. It doesn't really hurt to play fingerstyle, but I'm not sure it's a good idea. I can feel those movements up in the elbow area, and since my job involves working at a computer all day, I figure it's best to be safe. I play a little occasionally, but just occasionally. I'm not worried, just trying to be careful.

Welcome Chris! Sorry to hear about the elbow. I am an intermediate tennis player and have felt the twinge from time to time. You gotta get your priorities straight, guitar, then tennis...

Enjoy!
