Absolutely!  But not just guitars, all musical instruments...  I'd been adding to my collection for about 30 years without ever selling anything before I had a massive clear-out about 2 years ago.  I just had way too much.   There were my regular players, my display models and my keepers (carefully stored and rarely played).  Then there was a whole bunch of stuff that never saw the light of day - I just didn't have the time or the inclination to play them.  I'm kind-off in remission now, though I have added 3 in the past year - Taylor 816ce, Taylor Mini Koa and a Fender Jazz bass - old habits die hard, I guess :-)

There's a link in my signature to my gear list (on UTGF) if you're interested in seeing what I kept hold of...

I guess the short answer with me is "yes."  But it comes and goes.  I don't know whether it's a blessing or a curse, but I do well for relatively long period of time, then just unwittingly stumble across something so compelling that I weaken and give in to GAS...

A few years ago, my goal was to have 7 GAs , one for each day of the week. Today, at 8 GAs,  I'm contemplating  my 9th and hoping to stop at 10. We'll see how that goes!
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

I'm trying to go the other way, with several "for sales" in my signature.  Those five need to go out before any others come in.  But temptation may rear it's ugly head at some point - a person is never truly safe.  I still kinda lust for a Blackbird Lucky 13, but not very seriously.  I'm pretty well set for all the various wood guitars I'm likely ever going to buy, but low-maintenance carbon fiber....hmmmm.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby

I'm up to 14 guitars, including baritone, 12-string, electric and tenor, plus a strumstick, ukulele and dulcimer, so GAS for me is to pick up an instrument I haven't played in a while and make new discoveries.  I don't put out more than two instruments at a time, and often play the same one for a month or so.  Currently it's baritone and 12-string;  trying to freshen up old favorite songs with new arrangements on these instruments (the former an Alvarez, the latter a Breedlove; both are terrific mahogany laminate with solid sitka top guitars).
CURRENTLY PLAYING

'30 Martin 2-17 solid Mahogany
'97 Tacoma PK-30 Sitka/koa
'99 Alhambra 11C classical cedar/EIR
'05 TAYLOR 614ce
'07 Breedlove Atlas 12-string Sitka/Mahogany
'10 Froggy Bottom "C" Adi/Brazilian
'11 TAYLOR BTO GC 12-fret sinker/EIR.
'14 Alvarez Baritone Sitka/Mahogany
'18 Cordoba hybrid Flamenco Euro Spruce/Ziricote
'23 M. Colbert Baritone Alaskan Sitka/Black Limba multiscale with Manzer wedge

GAS...nope, I'm happy where I'm at. All my guitars have a different purpose, feel, sound, so they all get played. I have a custom mountain dulcimer being built right now. That's called DAD (dulcimer acquisition disease.....and it's a standard tuning too, so it fits). I will be all set in that regard too. I went through a period where I was learning new instruments, but am focusing on just those two now. So, for now, I'm content. Not to say I don't love seeing what's new and giving them a try. Will probably be attending a FYF event in the middle of Feb.

Struggle, no struggle!!I have no problem owning HUNDREDS of guitars!! I can't afford them, that's all! I'm at eleven, and have given away two, and broken one.

I have only one Taylor Guitar the 512-CE 12-Fret. I love it for everything except open or drop tuning. It gets a little thin sounding for that. I'm not sure what guitar would be best for this - Maybe a Martin.

Hi John, my 414ce thrives in drop D tuning, and any of my GA's do well with it. The GC does it ok, but not as well as the others. I'm sure Martin makes some good models for that too.

I struggle when I come across a bargain. I usually buy and sell on at cost to friends. That way I can still have a play when we visit and I'm getting friends to play better guitars.

I'm also a sucker for a good deal. If you're patient they can be found, even if your budget isn't ready for it!

Yes, guilty, but this is some time ago.  Couldn't stop myself... but now finally subdued!  Thank goodness for having other obsessions too... like cameras!  hahaha
