Hello UTGF Family!
Thalia Capos generously donated 3 of their capos to give away on our forum! Thalia Capos made their mark on the capo world as being on of the first to customize different types of inlays!
They generously sent us the following capos as prizes!
1. "Satin Gold Finish with Dragon Abalone Inlay"
2. "Black Chrome Finish with Hawaiian Koa Celtic Knot Engraved Inlay"
3. "Black Chrome Finish with Hawaiian Koa Inlay"Here's my review!
Packaging: Thalia Capos doesn't mess around. Each capo had a hard, clear, plastic case. If that wasn't enough, each plastic case came in a black microfiber bag. So it's up to the winner of the capos to decide how they want to store it. The Thalia capo fits nice and snug in the plastic case and WILL NOT rattle around.
Capo appearance: The capo is a little bit thicker than say the G7th, Shubb or the Kyser but understandably so as it features unique inlays that other capos don't. The inlays are beautiful and are small works of art in and of itself. If you go to their website you see all the many varieties of inlay that they offer.
Capo performance: This capo is solid and very well made! This capo took a little bit to get use to as it clamps down from the bottom side of the guitar neck versus other which are designed to clamp down from the top side. Squeezing the clamp together actually opens it up. It took a little bit of force to open which I'm sure will get easier with use. Thalia's capos aren't adjustable tension wise which means that you won't have to worry about getting the tension just right etc. It has a strong grip and won't fall off. I did notice that the low "E" string was hit and miss, sometimes being perfect and then sometimes slightly sharp...I'm not worried about this part as it's explained in the next paragraph.
This second part is also where Thalia sets itself apart from other capo companies, as if the neat inlays weren't enough. Thalia realized that different guitar necks have different radii etc. Most capo companies have one curve to the top part of the capo hence why it's made of rubber. With each capo comes a number of "sliding" fretpads that can be tailored for your guitar! These are slightly harder than your typical rubber pads and are designed to make sliding moving the capo easier. There are instructions as to how to remove the current pad.
Thalia also sent our forum a set of custom "rubber" pads too should you want the rubber pads instead of the slightly harder "sliding" pads. The rubber pad kit IS NOT included with the purchase of one of their capos. Only the "sliding" kit comes standard with each capo, but because Thalia is awesome, they included the rubber pad kit along with standard sliding kit! Each capo prize will have both kits to experiment with! These different custom pads will allow the capo to apply equal pressure across the radius of the neck which should eliminate any type of note distortion aka, your low "E" string going sharp etc.
Capo quality: As stated above this is a very well made capo. It is larger, but again it's because of the different types of inlay. How confident is Thalia in their capos? Confident enough to offer a
Lifetime Warranty which you can read about on their website! You don't have to worry about Thalia NOT standing behind their product.
In the end, this is a great company and they definitely have in a small way, revolutionized the capo industry with both the inlay options and the customized padding so that you get the perfect fit regardless of the guitar brand.
Here is where YOU come in! As stated before Thalia Capos graciously donated these capos for prizes on the forum! 3 Lucky winners will each win one of the capos with the extra rubber padding kit included!
