314ce High E too loud or twangy
« on: October 30, 2015, 09:46:57 AM »
I have a 2007 314ce. The high E has always been too loud or twangy when I play. Is it me? Is it the strings. I think I have elixir hd lights on there, but can't recall.

have you tried 80/20 bronze strings? some people find the phosphor bronze a little too zingy at the high end with some guitars and playing styles

Are you talking amplified, or acoustic?

Like MrHarry says we need to know if you mean acoustic or amplified and contrary to what Rob said, I've always found 80/20s to be much twangier than PBs

Same problem with my 114ce.  Many string brands sounded zingie especially the coated DAD's.  So I tried some cheap ol' Earnie Ball Earthwoods.  It really evened out the tonal range.

When I want to mellow the tone of a guitar, I use GHS White Bronze (52% nickel alloy).  They also last me longer than most uncoated strings.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.

Agree on the PB strings being less bright than 80-20's, especially after initial break in
