Early new year's resolution - recording on a "budget"
« on: November 04, 2014, 03:32:37 PM »
Thinking about an early new year's resolution. And that is, to start recording. Not to share at first, but as a training tool to measure my progress - a better way to assess my technique, etc. I already have the iPad, this seems like an inexpensive way to get a very flexible tool which I can also use with my electric guitars as well..

Anyone have experience with this?

I'm a big fan of Line 6, I have the Pod Studio UX2 as well as the Pod Studio GX so I can give you a thumbs up on Line 6.

I use mine thru my Mac laptop and have always been amazed at how much you can tailor your recordings and also how well it plays with Garageband. With electric guitars, it's mindblowing the variety of tones you have access to.

My only qualm with the SonicPort is that you're locked into it's mic and maybe an ackward bit of mic placement to your acoustic, whereas with the Pod Studio UX you can use any dynamic or condenser. But if SonicPort plays well with your iPad maybe that's all for the good.

I'm no sound engineer, but you can give my recordings a listen to get an idea of what's possible with Line 6. . .

I do a LOT of iPad recording with Auria and other apps, it's a very cool platform to make music on for sure.  The Line6 TonePort is a great device, I still go straight from my acoustic pedal board to my DA, but I know a few people using those who love them.  I've owned pretty much all of the Line6 Pods over the years, and they all sound great.  I don't think you'd go wrong with that at all.
