bridge pins for taylor 210
« on: October 19, 2014, 02:51:14 PM »
Does anyone know where I can get ebony or bone bridge pins for a taylor 210? Everywhere I look it says for 300 series or up. I would like to change out the plastic ones that are in it know. Some say they have an effect on tone and some people say that it doesn't. I would like to experiment and see for myself. Any help would be appreciated.

Try the LMS (Luthier's Merchantile) website or Bob Colosi's website.

I fitted Taylor abalone bridge pins to my 210 at the last string change so doing two things at once messes any comparison up, but hey, they look great and I'm convinced it sounds better.

You can order bridge pins right off the Taylor web site.

The Taylorware site says the ebony pins are for 300 series and up only because that is what they originally come on, but they will work fine on a 200. I bought a set for my 214 and they fit fine.

If the Taylor ebony pins fit, you can also purchase them from Musician's Friend. Looks like they offer free shipping, too (if you are in the USA), so it might wind up being less expensive than if you buy them directly from Taylor's web site.

If anyone's tried Bob Colosi's bridge pins or even his saddles, I'd love to know what they're like... I'm going to need to replace some pins on an incoming used Taylor, and I'm considering his stuff.

You'll read a lot of accolades on this forum about Bob's products and service, and they're all true. I've bought several sets of bone pins from him with excellent results.

Speaking of bridge pins.....
I went to change the strings on my new 150e 12 stringer last week and 4 of the 12 broke off when trying to remove them via the method Taylor uses in their video which uses a side cutter pivoting on the saddle to pry them out. The ball ends just snapped off. I ordered the ebony bridge pins off the Taylor site. 2 sets of 6 pins were $19 shipped. Just got them today and installed them. And we are back in business! Seems to me that these ebony pins do sound different than the plastic ones that came stock on the guitar. They sound zingier to me. Off we go!

Yeah, here's a post of mine

I switched from ebony to these bone pins and I did it for obvious cosmetic reasons. Frankly while I hoped to hear an "improvement" in tone, I couldn't hear any difference....but I'm happy...for obvious reasons.  ;D

You will notice an improvement. I can't swear by the difference between plastic and ebony, but I'll bet you'll notice it. So I don't repeat myself, here's my review of switching out plastic for Tusq bridge pins here: http://www.unofficialtaylorguitarforum.com/index.php?topic=5412.msg58142#msg58142

I really don't know why Taylor puts plastic bridge pins in their lower end models, the difference in material cost to them for plastic vs. ebony I bet is less than $5.

I yanked those suckers out of my 150e and GS Mini as soon as I could.

Yeah it kind of surprised me that a company of Taylor's stature would use such cheap pins...but there you have it.
At the same time I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the 150e. With the exception of the pins...it is an awesome value!
