NGD - Custom GA Macassar Ebony / European Spruce
« on: October 23, 2014, 01:06:55 PM »
I got this Custom GA with Macassar Ebony / European Spruce from Empire Music.
There is a thread about this custom guitar here:
http://www.unofficialtaylorguitarforum.com/index.php?topic=5655.0

It started with Joe's email (Joe is the owner of Empire Music) saying they just got this special run in.
At the store, I was immediately hooked with the tone of this guitar (well, of course, with the appearance too), which reminded me of 2013 Spring Limited African/Macassar Ebony 614ce.
I sold the African Ebony Spring Limited to support my purchase of PRS Angelus, but I missed it badly later on because of its tonal quality.

To my ear, it has deep articulate base together with very sweet mid and clear but velvety high.
As you can see in my signature, my play style is exclusively finger style.
This guitar suits extremely well with my playing style.
I will record some sound clips when my excitement calms down.
But for now, I just can't put it down...

Sorry for the inconsistent color balance. I took these photos with my phone...

Thank you for reading!!

Curse you, "Giraku!" ;)  I was going to be home in Pittsburgh in about three weeks, and I wanted to see that one firsthand!  I had no realistic reason to buy it (still got my 2013 Spring Limited in African Ebony), but it was just so doggone pretty in the photos that Joe had posted on his site that I wanted to see it for myself!  Actually, I should probably be thanking you; you've removed temptation from my life.  If I played it and loved the tone (already love the looks), I'd really have been in a financial pickle...

Seriously, though, congratulations!  The wood on that one is really beautiful -- truly the best-looking one of the bunch.  And from what you say, it seems that these Macassar customs that Joe got in sound great too!  I'll have to try out one of the others when I'm back in the 'Burgh; at least I won't be so tempted to buy with my eyes with one of those...

I don't suppose I can cajole you into stopping back by Empire Music sometime so I can ogle yours...? ::)

That's a great wood combination.  I have a Petros with that combination.

Your taylor looks beautiful.

Oooooh yeah!  I had never played a macassar, and when I got my 616 SpringLtd (euro spruce/macassar), I was oh so very surprised at its depth and defined bass tone.  It took me a while monkeying with string choices, but I've finally settled to where I love this guitar!  Very different voicing from my others; love it!
Congrats!  :D

As for the stings, I am quite happy with Elixir's new HD Light on this guitar.
I plan recording something next weekend. I will let you know when sound clips are uploaded.

Thanks again!
