What New Model Would You Like To See From Taylor
« on: June 29, 2014, 10:16:26 AM »
With a few recent threads about the new Taylor 150e and the sunbursts now available on the 100 series, it got me thinking......

What new model would you like to see from Taylor and why?

I think I'd like to see a 100 or 200 series GC. I have my 512ce, which I love for fingerstyle (which is what I play 99% of the time). But, there are times when I don't want to risk taking it somewhere (and where I wouldn't need the electronics), but still want the GC. The mini's do well, but the GC would be nice for what I'm talking. Jammin' with the neighborhood gang, etc. I'm just thinking it would be the model I'd like to see Taylor come out with, for me.

One thing I'm convinced of.....what one person likes/needs may differ from that of another person. That's the beauty of Taylor...you can pick the body size, woods, etc. that you want/need. So, no wrong answers here and let's not pick apart what someone would like to see (me included....let's play nice ;)).

I've always felt that Taylor had everything pretty much covered -- except for a 100-series GC.  The low-end guitars are often the first guitar purchased for someone who's just learning to play, and that someone is often a child or early teen.  Makes no sense to not accommodate that person size-wise until the 300 series.  Yeah, I know ... the GS mini.  But that's not really a guitar that scales up with a person as they get older and larger.

I wish Taylor made a small bodied guitar in solid woods, similar to the Collings baby size guitars, which sound incredible for their size. Taylor is completely missing the market segment who want  want a guitar of that size and quality build.

Surprised someone hasn't said GS Mini with 1 3/4" nut. Becuz I have seen that remark over and over from folks who won't buy the Mini becuz of the smaller nut.

Most of my guitars have a wider nut. The Mini, however, does not cramp my style at all. So it's not an issue for me, personally.

sapele top BBT -
the hog top baby & minis are 8)
why not add the big 'un :-\

tasmanian blackwood top mini -
not that there needs to be another reason to get a mini,
but taz would be nice, right inbetween hog & spruce ...
plus, it would look 8) (kinda like koa, but with a little a bit more "umph")
http://www.rainbowguitars.com/guitar/taylor/bt1-koa-taylor-swift-limited-edition-baby-taylor/bt1koa/to

212eDLX cedar top edgeburst koa, 4 5/8" body depth with
1 11/16" nut, 25.5" scale, which may not win the "popular" vote
here, but using a standardized neck is likely more viable &
the same body could be used, if a 212e-n is added later on

mahogany top 326, e & ce models - more hog is never a bad thing ;)

418 - ovangkol in the GO shape ... boom :o
a gloss 418e in the spring LTDs would have been sweet

400 series expanded to include 42X models -
all satin finish (like the 32Xs)
maple, rosewood, imbuia & tasmanian blackwood
bound headstock (on all 400s)

heritage series -
mahogany
maple
rosewood
spruce top
adi AP bracing
black binding
small diamond fretmarkers
updated 3 ring rosette
gloss rosewood bound headstock
3.5 finish
gotoh stealth tuners
lemon grove aesthetics & smaller headstock
with the current voicing "turned-up a notch or 3"

andy powers take on a rounded shoulder dreadnought,
a shape that slots in between a X12 & X14 (hybrid) &
a smaller upper shoulder "jumbo", in between the GS & GO

not a new model, but more option-oriented -

tranparent stain (natural or other)
gloss maple veneer 200s with maple neck -
the DDX & 214ceBLK were especially nice
with maple, make the figuring visible please :)

700 series in natural finish, with $ pt
closer to the 500s, rather than 600s

800, 900, koa & PSXX-A models - adirondack top option
it'd be nice to see this offered on 500-700s, but the
availability may not support it, or the upcharge for it

yeah, i know ...
i'm not asking, er wishing, for much, am i  :-[
it's not about what you play,
it's all about why you play ...

Wow, lots of good ideas so far. Some of your suggestions (wants, etc.) sound pretty cool.

I really like this one:

2) 12-fret short-scale (24.7) Grand Orchestra
I've only heard two guys play jazz on a Les Paul....me, and some guy named "Les Paul"
