Hey everyone, I am new to forums in general.

Basically, I'm looking at purchasing a new Taylor or possibly a martin in the next week or so. I need all the advice I can get!

Welcome aboard and I am confident everyone is looking forward to hearing from you with your inquiries about two great guitar companies.  I only own a Taylor, but I have played a few Martins over the years, either in the stores, or those belonging to friends.  All were great guitars.  I will say taht I love both of my Taylors, see my signature.  See ya later.....

picking out a new guitar is always exciting & some times can be a bit 'frustrating' -
i'd suggest trying to find as many different models to 'test-drive' as you can

there may be one guitar from the beginning that sounds/plays the best to you
compared to all the others, or it may take some time in searching for 'the one' ...
i think that if the guitar makes you want to pick it up & play it, it's a good start

also, it may be helpful if you can find a friend to go with you for moral support &
if they play also, this will give you a chance to hear the guitar from 'out-front' as well -
this will also make it easier to 'A/B' or compare 2 different guitars, back and forth

G day Eden,  If your in Sydney and can travel a little try Guitar Factory at Gladesville, they have a good selection of Taylors, Martins as well as Gibsons plus some handbuilts and also some Aussie builders guitars.
Send me a pm if you like I'd be happy to steer you in the right direction and away from the not so helpful and most expensive store in Sydney.

Hello eden and welcome! If you go with a 1xx or 2xx series Taylor, the nut width is slightly narrower than the 3xx and higher. The best thing to do is to play them and pick one that feels right and sounds the best to your ear like Michael said.
