2012 Taylor Fall Limited - Yellowing around Soundhole?
« on: May 21, 2014, 05:29:26 PM »
Hello:

I have noticed some "yellowing" around the soundhole/rosette of my 2012 Fall Ltd.   I had heard of this before with certain models, but have never experienced it personally.  I have contacted Taylor and sent pics and am awaiting a response...but I doubt anything will come of of it since I am not the original purchaser.

Can anyone elaborate on what causes this, and if I can expect the discoloration to expand?  It is not aging...but rather a definite "yellow" color; my guess is that it is caused by glue or other solvent leeching into the wood from the rosette installation...but that is just a guess.
I have added a couple of pictures for your review and comments...although it is difficult to get good pictures of...but it is very noticable.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

i've seen a few models that have this type of discoloration, at a local shop & on the interwebs
http://stores.ebay.com/Willcutt-Guitars/_i.html?_nkw=taylor+2012+fall+limited&_sid=13414687&_sop=2&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14

minis too
http://stores.ebay.com/Willcutt-Guitars/_i.html?_nkw=taylor+gs+mini&submit=Search&_sop=2&_sid=13414687

if the yellowing was not apparent when the guitar was purchased, i would expect
that over time & with UV exposure it will probably continue to be more visible -
the affected areas on the ones i've seen are in close proximity to the binding & rosette

some builders use an aged or aging toner

the DMSM had that type of finish as well, but i don't think it was quite so yellow
it's not about what you play,
it's all about why you play ...
