Taylor SB1-X
« on: April 12, 2014, 08:25:26 PM »
Hey Good People!

I was cruising the Craigslist listing in search of a T5-Z when I ran across an SB1-X that claims to be in mint condition and the price is a bit less than those I've seen listed on ebay and at the retail shops.  I've never played one, do you all have thoughts?  It's a bit of a drive to see it but I just may make the journey.

Thanks!!

What year is it? Loaded pickguard? How much are they asking? Don't answer that last question. It can't hurt to go check things out, unless it's located in Jersey. ;)

It's a 2011, it has a pretty white pearl pickguard and is nowhere near Jersey.  It's less than any other one I've seen on ebay or retailers.  I've played the T5's but I've never touched one of these models.

I guess the question is....then why do you want it?

I'm a huge Taylor fan, don't get me wrong, but the solid body isn't their bread and butter.  I've never played one either, but knowing that, along with the fact that they have suspended the solid body production, what makes you think this is the right way to go for you?  I'm just curious.

I've played a few different SBs; they are all Taylor, IMHO.  Which is to say quality feel, action/neck superb as you would expect, and is a no-excuses good solid guitar.  It would fit anybody who wanted a quality electric, IMHO.  Whether it is in current production is a total non-issue for me, personally.  A good guitar is what it is.  The only question is whether it suits the player.  That their SBs are not popular works in your favor in terms of price point.  If you're interested in an electric and this one fits your price and desires, it may just be worth your while to make the drive.  :D

Ebick that's a great question.  A food and their money are easily and often parted.  People think i play guitar, I tell folks I play a bit but I'm much better at looking at pretty instruments and making impulse buys.  I spend hours playing on ebay and craigslist admiring things that would look good on my wall, the irony is the only one I've kept for any length of time is my GA8 (thanks Edward) and I don't know that  I'll ever part with her.

I'm stalling for now, if the price drops again I may go take a peek, if nothing else I could make a buck or two on it.

Thanks for the input good people.
