It's an interesting thread.  Those of us wishing for "more" from our older Taylors, especially x12's and x14's, presumably wish for more bass first and foremost, I presume.

I agree.  And after experimenting with probably a dozen different string sets, I settled on DR Rare mediums for my 814.  Their mediums are identical to everyone else's lights, except that the low E string is a 54, which adds some bottom end and volume to smaller-bodied guitars.  Love those strings.

Didn't care for DR Rare 11's on my Taylor GC, but I have a set of 12's to try, which I will.  I LOVE DR Sunbeam 11's on my 1930 small body Martin.

I'd like to note that Elixir's website supports what Edward said - the Phosphor Bronze are warmer and the 80/20 are brighter.

I normally use Mediums, but now I'm using/testing Elixir Medium-Lights (I think they call em "Light-Medium"). I like the sound of the Med/Lights and Mediums so I'm torn with what to use (i'll probably go Mediums next). But with the advent of the HDs I'll be interested to see how these play. I may hold off on purchasing some until I hear some reviews on how they sound with the GS shape. I wonder if they'd work against that shape?

Light-Medium   .012   .016   .024   .035   .045   .056

Medium      .013   .017   .026   .035   .045     .056

HD Light      .013   .017   .025   .032   .042   .053

So their "Light-Mediums" are essentially "Lights" for the lows and "Mediums" for the highs. It seems the HD Lights took the opposite mashup. Mediums for the lows and Lights for the highs (with the G-string...hey hey...being the bridge at .025)

I'm sure it sounds great on the new 800s. But it'll be interesting to see how these play with any other guitar.
