I saw that as well.... First I heard of it until then but coming from Tobias Music I would assume it reliable info, or at least a reliable rumor. Hate to hear that. Wouldn't mind owning a Baritone but wouldn't want to pay the BTO price. Seldom see used ones pop up for sale so maybe they just aren't moving enough of them to justify keeping them in the regular line up
R.I.P Baritone....

Wonder if the baritone 6 is staying around; I thought the 8 was more popular.

It is to bad too because I never got to sit down and really give one a proper go.  I did try one at a Taylor road show, but there were 20 others playing at the same time, I could barely hear what I was playing.

currently, the baritone 8s are not being shown as a "legacy model"
http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/baritone-8
http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/baritone-8-mahogany
nor, are the 6s
http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/baritone-6
http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/baritone-6-mahogany
but, that could change in a week, or less, or at winter namm -
did the information of the discontinuation of the baritone 8 come from a dealer or elsewhere ???

i like the 07-11 500 series appointments, with the original 800 series/96-00 500 series slotted diamond fretmarkers -
i wish that the acoustic series had expanded into a CE series, with 3 ring abalone rosette & rosewood binding,
provided the $ point was kept a little below the current 700 series, with CV or parabolic bracing on XX8, 9 & K &
foregoing the abalone edged top, more intricate fretmarkers & anything else that might bump the $ up considerably :-\

even so, there is still BTO :)

No mention of anything other than the 8, said " it was an " inventory control " decision by Taylor. They have lots of models and only so much shelf space." Also said  the 8 String with a Tobacco Sunburst top is a top seller for them.

I would think that the Taylor 8 would gain more of a following given time. Hate to see it go. I love 12 strings but the 8's are just plan fun and sound really cool to boot.

Oh well...

I think JT and I saw it posted in the same location (which was another forum) but it was posted by a reputable dealer whom I would assume a reliable source.

the baritone 8 seems to be somewhat of a "niche" guitar to me, but it sounds good

i imagine there were quite a few more of the baritone models built & sold than the 9 string, though

I believe the 9 string was the inspiration for the Bariton 8.  I personally prefer a baritone 6 anyway, although I believe the 8 was a better seller at Taylor.

Ah, man, I haven't gotten mine yet. May be a dream further off than I thought. I'm still a very blessed man!

Last I looked, Guitar Rodeo/Podium still has a Bari 8 in its inventory.  Now would probably be a good time to scratch the itch before word gets out and remaining inventory gets snatched up...

Both standard and Mahogany of the Bari 8 still show as SKU's I can order but this could change after NAMM. Truth is in the last four years I have not received any orders for this model and we are a top 20 dealer (could be #1 or #20, they don't tell you which) so I would imagine it wasn't a good seller. If it is dropped most dealers will not even notice IMO and anyone who wants one can get a BTO that has been personalized for them for not much more than a standard model.

yep ... it's a 'hog, too -
looking at a year old BTO sheet, for a baritone 8 spec'd with late 80's to 92 500/700 appointments,
retail is the same as the current one, or 61Xce range, & when the rosewood binding, small diamond
fretmarkers, abalone rosette, gold tuners & ab dot bridge pins are checked, add the $ of a GSmini-E too
