First unread post

Quick question... is there a way to go to the first unread post in a thread instead of having to scroll down though all the other messages you've already read?

i think the way it works is if you login & click on "Show unread posts since last visit.",
there will another window that pops up & then click on the "new" button on the topic you wish to view

provided you always login in before viewing any posts or thread, i think the forum
software will automatically pull up the last post not previously viewed in a thread -
somehow, i'm not sure if the "Show new replies to your posts." works in the same manner
because i would figure it would take one to the post after one had last replied to in a
topic, but it may be because that i'm not using that particular function correctly
