I bet those were some great concerts. In your area the concert opportunities are probably fabulous.

Best part is there are a lot of smaller venues outside NYC in nearby upstate NY and NJ that attract some very good performers.  It is to these venues we prefer to go when possible, although the Beacon Theatre in NYC is our favorite Manhattan venue (amongst other acts, the Allman Brothers hold a 10-13 concert residency at the Beacon every spring;  We've seen Jackson Browne, Bonny Raitt, Tedeshi-Trucks, Crosby Stills and Nash and Robert Plant there relatively recently).

Lizzy,

Like you, most of my gigging music comes from the days of VW vans and bell bottoms.  That said, I've discovered some great new acoustic stuff listening to the Coffee House on Sirius.  Passenger comes to mind.  Have not learned any One Direction yet though my daughters keep asking...
I listen to channel 15, The Pulse, on Sirius. It helps keep me up to date musically. I like Passenger and there's a band called Parachute that's good too. Actually, One Direction is not bad. They do have great voices (which is saying something these days in popular music) even though their stuff is very pop.
It's nice to see all the oldies, but goodies people here....along with everything in between. Then I don't feel so old!

Thats me, a oldie and a goody

How did Crosby, Stills and Nash sound live these days? One if my dream concerts would be Peter Gabriel. Saw Chicago years ago. I must say they were fantastic. I couldn't believe the wall of sound they produced. Saw James Taylor this year. He definitely still has it.

They are collectively great. Stills has fabulous guitar chops--he played mostly rockin' electric guit. His voice isn't quite as good perhaps as his historic peak, but Crosby and Nash still have it in spades. The latter two frequently tour together--I would love to see that duo when they come around again.

Saw Stills and Neil Young for the first time in 1968 as part of Buffalo Springfield.  They opened for the Beach Boys.......

How things go round....when I saw Chicago, the Beach Boys opened for them. That was sometime in the 90's. Never liked the Beach Boys. Maybe because I can't sing that high!

Yeah, openers can sometimes be anticlimactic.  Like the historically famous Jimi H opening for the Monkees.  Or, in my personal experience, Janis Joplin opening for the Chambers Brothers(1969), or Chuck Berry opening for the Lovin' Spoonful (~1967).  I can justify Joe Walsh and the James Gang opening for Santana(1969), and certainly The Staples Singers opening for the Doors(1970).

Wow this is some great stuff! parachute, something to believe in, is one of my favorite songs. Harder to breathe is a awesome from  Maroon 5. Have you ever listened to Muse....they have some good rocker stuff.  Keith Urban is totally underrated as a guitarist. I like nickleback...especially their Rockstqr. song:). We just went to see Rascal Flatts with Band Perry and they were awesome. Thanks for these links....seems like we are on some of the same musical wavelengths. Maybe I'm not as stuck in the seventies as I thought!

Is he ever!  I had the pleasure of going to Madison Square Garden for guitarist nirvana, also known as Eric Clapton's Crossroads Festival.  The highlight of the evening -- one which included Clapton, Steve Cropper, Taj Mahal, BB King, Buddy Guy and the Allman Brorhers, to name a third of the performers-- was Keith Urban coming out to jam with John Mayer on the Beatles'  "Don' t Let Me Down".  Urban absolutely brought down the house.  See it on Youtube......

I picked up the acoustic version of Passenger's "Let Her Go" and played it at a college bar thinking they would think I was a hip old cat.  They didn't know the tune (normally I attribute that to my playing but this is an easy song).  I was starting to feel bad then realized I was just ahead of the curve!

Wonder what sweet little guitar Keith is playing here.... I can't get a good enough look at it.
You've pulled up some good stuff Michael! You are a wealth of information.
I think about one of my favorite rock songs is Kashmir by Zeppelin...can't get any better than that:) my daughter used to sit in her car seat and rock from side to side and just smile this big smile whenever I played it.
Drive by Incubus, another one on my iPod. Great tune.
