I'm baaaaaack! Sorry for the long trip....
« on: November 25, 2013, 08:51:07 PM »
But I have a Taylor once again and I love it. A DN3 with a DTAR Dual Source pu installed. I love the 1 3/4 nut width. Finally found a Taylor that sounded good to me. Very deep, very mello. Love it.

Good for you. I absolutely love my DN3, wouldn't trade it for anything. Mines from 2007 and starting to turn that good looking darker color. Sounds better every time I play it! Enjoy yours!

Now, find me a buyer for my new HD28. Love the tone, hate the neck.

Hi Horse - Does the 2013 HD28 have the newer performance neck lifted from the Performance Artist series? I have been looking for a new D18 so I can try it. Hopefully that's not the neck you hate. Though today I may have shifted my dread search back to Taylor camp.

No it's the standard HD28. For a limited time they made a HD28P with the PA neck. Must not have done that well because they reverted right back to the original design.

It is truly an amazing sounding guitar. Nothing quite like an HD28. It's not that it's hard to play, it has been set up with super low action. It's is a more narrow neck, yet thicker than a Taylor. Taylor would in comparison be wide and thin, Martin would be narrow and fat. My hand just fits the Taylor and the Martin PA neck better.

Not sure if I could really let her go. It's like driving a big solid Mercedes S Class. The Taylor is like driving a Porshe. Both are fun.

Subtle, sort of:-) Kind of a DN3 taking over the world pic (or at least your stable).

So I can see how that neck would get unnerving if you're accustomed to the Taylor. I read conflicting reports that the PA features in the 2011 (or '12?) D18P and HD28P had been rolled into the new "standard" D18 and HD28. But obviously not. There are still some random P's floating around, but nothing in the shops. And searching for "vintage" instruments that fit the bill is a FT job, or more appropriately, hobby in itself.
