D'Addario EXP17
« on: November 14, 2013, 05:50:14 PM »
Anyone tried/ recommend the D'Addario EXP 17 Medium out there and find them good? Was thinking of putting them on my 818e as a wee change from Elixirs. Any thoughts?

i love the EXP17's. i swapped out the Elixirs about a week after i got my last guitar( maybe sooner on the one before that).
i find that they have a cleaner sound to my ear. they last longer and they don't "shed". i use the EXP16's on my GA  and EXP17's on my GS' and dread.

I prefer EXP16's to Elixir PB 12's.  I prefer John Pearse 600's (uncoated) to either of the others

I have the EXP16s on my Fairbanks right now. I had a credit at stringsandbeyond from an Elixir trial and they had a nice deal so I got a few packs. So far so good -- they're a bit squeakier than Elixirs initially but they seem to have mellowed out a bit. They definitely feel more like uncoated strings than Elixir. I like them a lot more than I thought I would. I think I still prefer the feel and tone of Elixir on my Taylor, but I'm liking the sound and feel of the D'Addarios on this one so far.

I like EXP 14  Light top/Med bottom on  my Taylor 710 , and Martin HD-28. And EXP11  .012-.053 Lights on my GA8, GC6 and Loar LO16. I still have Elxir meds on my Taylor 810. When it's time for a string change I'm going to try the EXP 12 med .013-.056 on my 810. I only use Lighht/meds because of elbow and hand surgery. I like how the EXP's feel, play, and sound.
