Road Show Bound - Wonderful Spousal Support
« on: November 04, 2013, 08:19:02 AM »
There have been a few posts lately about the great support some of us have from our spouses. I am definitely one of those lucky people.

This spring I got (with great encouragement from my husband) what I've figured is the last Taylor I'll "need" (512ce), because it is the guitar I had wanted and it complements what I already have (414 and GSM).  I'm a happy camper. So, when I got the postcard in the mail this past week for the Taylor Road Show about 50 miles away, I thought, nah, I'm good.  Why tempt myself.

My husband saw the postcard and said..."did you write the Taylor Road Show on the calendar?"  I said "no", because I wasn't going to attend.  He said..."well, we are going, or at least I am, you can go along if you want" (he doesn't play guitar). I explained that I'm content with my current collection of Taylors, appreciate them, and don't see the need to go to the Road Show.  He insisted, because he attended with me last time I went (2 years ago) and he knows how much fun it was (for both of us).

So, my husband talked me into it, twisted my arm so to speak, and we will be going to our second Taylor Road Show in a few weeks.  I'm looking forward to it, because they are a lot of fun, especially with the one you love!

Who knows.....during the last one, I tried out the new GS Mini and fell in love with it.  The next spring, my husband surprised me with a new GS Mini.

It does my heart good to hear stories about supportive spouses.  My wife figures that the more she supports my guitar playing, the more she gets to hear me play.  From her point of view, that's a good thing.

You hit the nail squarely on the head Jim.  If society practiced that we would have a 1% divorce rate instead of 55%.  Sorry I turned the OP's point of the post  into one of societies ills, but there you go I just vented.

mgap,
No need to apologize, glad you could vent. You are right!

BTW, my husband is supportive of my passion....music, but I'm also supportive of his....making pure maple syrup. After six years of production, the two of us built a new Sugar House this summer that will be his man cave mostly (I'm more the official sap collector and help with bottling). Since he's the official boiler and bottler, he'll spend more time in there than me. It's going to have all the comforts of home, including satellite TV, a microwave, etc. So, in our marriage, we are both doing things to make sure the other is happy, doing what they love!

Similar situation here.  We know we have each others back.  Last year, when I had an 814 incoming, a deal on a T5 came up that was too good to resist.  I couldn't justify buying two guitars the same week.  My wife said, "Buy it - that one will be mine!"  I might add, she does not play guitar.  She does let me play hers whenever I want, though.  ;)

If I don't get around to playing on a given day, she ask, "When's my concert?"  Nice to have that kind of support.

Some people understand that marriage isn't about "compromise"... it's about making that most important person in your life happy.

So true!  As I'm fond of saying, "Compromise is the art of making everyone equally unhappy."
