1990 Taylor 450 12-String Acoustic
« on: November 04, 2013, 10:12:41 AM »
Can anyone here tell me what the specs on this guitar were?
I am going to guess Sitka/Mahogany but not sure.
Thanks

You are correct - the original 400 series was solid Sitka and solid Mahogany, with a satin finish all around. This was Taylor's first entry into the sub-grand market (before the more familiar 300 and 400 series), probably to compete with Martin's 1 series. Structurally it was the same as a 500, albeit with cosmetically lower-grade woods, along with a rosewood fretboard and a rosewood pinless bridge. It was an excellent deal.

Don't forget about the 1 7/8" nut, pinned bridge.  I have a 1996 build 450 and didn't realize there were earlier versions of the 450.  No 12 string dreads were built after 1996 I believe, the jumbo 12s continued though.
