Pikelny, Sutton, Bulla, Bales, and Cobb
« on: October 26, 2013, 10:40:00 AM »
These guys are currently touring together and I got to see them last night, what a fabulous show!

They played some bluegrass standards and a few Guy Clark and Doc Watson tunes.  They also played songs off each others' solo albums.  They really rocked the bluegrass sound last night.  Noam Pikelny played the banjo beautifully and Jesse Cobb on the mandolin showcased warp-speed picking and fantastic BG chop.  Barry Bales on upright bass was superb and Luke Bulla on fiddle was too.

Brian Sutton on guitar was just an awesome sight to watch.  He played a Martin and switched from flatpicking to strumming rhythm seamlessly.

I think they are only traveling on the east coast right now but if they come to a venue near you I highly recommend the show.  The show is called "An Evening of Bluegrass."

Sounds like it was a good show.  Seems like we here on the edge of nowhere never get much in the way of Bluegrass shows. :'(

I've seen Noam Pikelny a number of times, most recently at a Banjo Summit featuring Tony Trischka, Bela Fleck, and 4 other banjo lumineries including Noam.  He's keeping the bluegrass torch aflame.
