The new guitar got its public debut last night...
« on: September 07, 2013, 11:05:54 AM »
It was a dark and storm night.  OK, not quite that cliche'...

Good evening for a carbon fiber guitar - it had rained most of the day, but that didn't dampen anyone's spirit.  They had event tents set up on the dock for the boat owners group...

I didn't have enough time for a good sound check - they had other events going on right up until I started.  The rental PA sounded good, but I sure missed having my Bose set-up (it's about 3,000 miles away).  I fine-tuned the sound of the Shorty within the first couple songs.  A couple hundred people in an interesting venue.

I mentioned the guitar while visiting with the crowd - lots of compliments on the sound.  Fun evening, the Shorty can definitely rock!

Best wishes,
Captain Jim

Very nice Captain Jim!  Really like the Johnny Cash look (all in black).
Thanks for sharing.

Nice looking guitar.....you look good with it.  Glad it's working out for you.  Your wife had a great idea when she encouraged you to get it.

It does fit you well. Always good to have a fantastic first date!

I am curious about the Rainsong. You may have seen I have my GSmini for sale. I need a travel piece but can't get past the neck width on the GSmini. Is the Shorty a 1 3/4 neck?

Yes, the Shorty has a 1.75 neck width.  The scale on the 12-fret is 24.875.  It is definitely bigger than the GSmini.  Size-wise, it is VERY close to the Taylor x12 12-fret; the Rainsong NS neck (N2 neck in a 12-fret) is a thicker profile than the Taylors.  I wasn't thinking of the guitar strictly as a travel guitar, but the carbon fiber does travel well.  Rainsong makes a parlor guitar that is pretty close to the GSmini in size, but has a cutaway.  I haven't played one, but I have read good reviews.

At this point, I have room on the boat for the Shorty and the GSmini... but, we'll be heading south soon.

Best wishes,
Jim

The Rainsong looks pretty cool.
