Hope I didn't make everybody mad with the d 18 comment. I have a 314CE and like it .

Yes and they are spectacular. I've played several and wanted to own each one. Someday. Last time I also compared the new standard D-18 with a Collings D1 and D1A -- I preferred the Martin and by more than a little bit. Someone with a heavier hand might have taken one of the Collings but I found the D-18 to be more versatile and sweeter sounding.

Between that new D-18 and the ever-amazing 15 series, I'm pretty sure my next guitar (or two?) will come from Nazareth. Your move, Taylor -- let's see that re-voiced dreadnought in January. ;)

So tell us- what is different about the new D18 compare with past versions? I've always liked the D18 sound, but the dreads are just too uncomfortable for me...
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

They upgraded pretty much everything on the D-18 and even dropped the price a little bit. Scalloped, forward-shifted bracing is probably the biggest difference in terms of tone. Other improvements are a higher grade spruce top, 1.75" nut width, correct 18 series appointments (they put the right rosette on it plu tortoise binding), vintage-style decal logo instead of gold foil, open gear tuners, etc...

They basically discontinued the D-18V and made it the standard D-18. There are a few who have played both that prefer the old model with straight bracing, but the majority of reviews favor the new model. I was never interested in the old version but the new one looks and sounds great.

I have a killer dreadnought (Fairbanks slope shoulder) but would still love to own one of these D-18s.

Edit: I have two killer dreadnoughts -- let's not forget about my 210. ;)

Thanks for the info- I'll have to go and test drive one just for fun!

I would also be interested in a D-18 for my next purchase, if my desire for a travel guitar/beater wasn't greater; need something warm and woody to contrast with the lush crisp richness of my 414ltd.

A Baritone Guitar.  6 string I think.  On the warmer side, hog or maybe coco or walnut or even maple.  Taylor or Veillette if I can afford it, Alvarez if I can't.

Not to sure but probably something in the mahogany line and most likely a GA body.  I was thinking the new 514 FLTD would be nice but they will be gone before I end up ordering :'(

Over the years, I've had a beautiful jumbo (Taylor 615), a 616 and an 816, and several dreads.  I've never owned a parlor, and lately I've been jonesing for one. :)
