I was quite content with the guitars I have... until we went to the Taylor factory in February. I played an 812 12-fret on display there. Played sweet, sounded great. I put that in the back of my mind. While on the boat this summer, my wife saw me perusing some carbon fiber guitars... just looking. Really.
The woman is clever: she likes these "fun summer jobs," and knows I'd rather we were out wandering. I may play the strings, but she knows how to
pull the strings... she said, "Is it time for another guitar?" I get the implication: work the season and the reward awaits. I came across the Rainsong Shorty, which is very close to the 812 in size and style, but is made of carbon fiber. A 12-fret, but the NS neck is a bit thicker than the Taylor necks that just "feel like home" to this old rock 'n roller. She encouraged, and I ordered a Shorty SG-FLE, limited edition with the shark fret markers and abalone rosette. Not the "Taylor sound," but some nice diversity. It is another keeper.
I generally live with a guitar for a long while if it speaks to me. I thought I was done before; really, very content with the selection. Not sure I'm even
more content at this point, but I know better than to say, "I'm done."
