is vintage city a scam? i was seeing how much i could get for a guitar and they want me to mail it to them without even so much as an estimate of what theyll offer for it. it feels scam-ish. any one use them before?

I don't know if they are legit or not but I think you will get more money selling to end users rather than to a middleman who would need to cover overhead expenses as well as make a profit.

I would first advertise at Craiglist, Ebay, AGF, and here at UTGF before exploring other means.

Goodluck.

Apparently, sending someone a guitar before receiving any kind of compensation first make a lot of people uncomfortable.

I don't believe there has been a single positive thing said about 'Vintage City Guitars'. I think they use a 'web-bot' to find and automatically respond to a guitar for sale ad and Craigslist seems to be the medium that gets the most spam.

Personally, the only way I would consider sending them a guitar up-front would be if they agree to pick it up from this location.

i contacted them first through their website. that being said, they jumped on the chance to buy it. they immediately sent a generic email saying they want to buy my guitar and even were as forward as to attach a shipping label. two days later i received that same letter in my physical mailbox along with a pre printed shipping label. the only thing they will tell me is i will get %80 of market value. but we all know market value is determined buy the stores, not the customers.

they claim that they will mail me a check the day after they receive my guitar for what they want to pay for it. and if i dont like the price then send the check back and theyll return my guitar. but i have a funny feeling that it wont work out that way if they low ball me and i send the check back. theres a million things that could go wrong.

Run away.  It's too easy to sell a guitar on your own at 90-100% of market value.  Why take the risk?
