New Guy
« on: March 25, 2013, 10:27:33 PM »
Hey everyone, new guy here.  Im new to guitar as of about 10 months ago.  Ive been playing my instructors Gibson J-45 Custom, and I've been thinking I needed one of my own.  I have recently sold something out of the gun collection, and guitar acquisition synd. was alive and well with me this weekend. I was determined I wanted a Martin HD-28.  A kind gentleman in my local GC was tearing up a Taylor and we struck up a conversation.  I never really tried a Taylor, but boy am I glad I did.  I bought an 814ce, way more than I merit, but I got it.  As a new player, it seems so much easier to work the fretboard.  The fit and finish and the case seemed much better also.
I'm kind of curious if any of you experienced guys might be able to tell me why a novice would find it easier to play the Taylor.
Anyhow, I'm a 52 yo physician who's always wanted to play, and it's now or never!
Don

Welcome aboard, Doc!  The action and string gauge will make a difference in how a guitar plays.  Taylors come from the factory with a good set-up, thanks to the neck and the consistency.  I may be very biased, but I think you picked a VERY nice guitar with the 814.  Good choice!  Now, play the heck out of it.

Best wishes,
Captain Jim

Welcome to the forum.  You chose a great guitar.  Having had a Martin D-35, I can say that both are wonderful, hand crafted instruments.  I find that especially for fingerstyle playing, the necks on Taylors are very smooth and easy to play.  The guitars have a different tone, and of course that is a subjective choice.  Enjoy your journey in learning to play.

Welcome, docdb.  Great guitar, the 814ce. I have that model as well. When one plays a Taylor, one really does play better.   ;)
