It's only me
« on: December 26, 2011, 08:17:56 AM »
Hello All,

I hope I am doing this right and it shows up in the "introduce yourself" section.

I started playing over 40 years ago and still stink.  My mom got me a cheapo (very cheapo actually) plywood no-name guitar to see if I would stick to it.  In 1972 while in the Air Force in Italy I bought a 12 string EKO.  Around '80 an Ovation 6 string followed me home.

I bought  a barely used 1998 310 on eBay two years ago.  It sound great and to my ears is the best sounding box in the mix when I get together with friends.

Oh, I live in the St. Louis area and also love old British motorcycles

madx2  (I'm not mad.  My wife and I both have m.a.d. for initials, hence madx2)

Hello madx2 and welcome to the forum. Do you still own any of your first 3 guitars? The Taylor 3xx series are awesome guitars and have incredible sound. I bought a used GA3 and a new 314ce both of which I love (I have a few other Taylors, too). You can't go wrong with one of them! :)

Yes, I have them all.  My mom still had my first one in a closet and gave it to me about 5 years ago...it's as cheap as I remembered it.

Glad you're here, madx2! If you wish, stop by the "Lounge" link at the bottom of the home page - there's a thread on Cars and motorcycles - it would be neat to hear more about your British motorcycles :)

hi madx2

good to see you here -
thank you for sharing about yourself

it is very interesting, & a bit ironic, that one of the guitars you mentioned was a 12 string EKO,
because it was the very same model that helped inspire Bob Taylor to begin making guitars 8)

congrats on your 310 :)
i have a 'soft spot' for the earlier '1st year production' models as well -
just a great playing & sounding guitar, imho :D

make yourself comfortable ;D

The EKO played nice when new but sure is heavy.  It is in a state of disrepair due to my son putting it in a storage building.  I took it back and it is now just wall decoration.

another option could be sending it to 'uncle Bob' ;)

the repair departments in el cajon works on all makes &
they could install the ES in it, if you should so desire ...

just a thought :)

To me,  it is beyond sinking a lot of money in.  My son left it in a storage unit for about a year.  The finish has about 30 cracks and the pick guard has warped badly.

It is now just a reminder of a young airman in sunny Italy.

sounds to me like that guitar is perfect just the way it is now, too ...
that sounds like a pleasant memory :)

Hello madx2,

Glad to see you jumping in here and becoming a part of this great Forum.  Looking forward to hearing from you.  Oh, I too enjoy motorcycles and have since before I was old enough to get my license (many years ago).
