With all this talk of X18s
« on: February 02, 2013, 04:23:32 PM »
With all the excitement I thought I would just give props to my Taylor 814ce Spring Limited.  I love it.  I love the Cocobolo and the sound is awesome, the fit is perfect.

I am going to change out the Taylor tuners for Gotoh 510's

I can't get over how the Cocobolo sounds, and looks.  And with reddish hue it looks quite different than EIR.

I just wish I could take decent pictures.

If I had time (and any photo talent), I'd snap up some shots of my maples ...just to offer a bit o' balance to all the x18 love :D

An 814 is hard to beat as an all-occasion guitar; add cocobolo back and sides, and it leaves many others in the dust! Enjoy....

sweet guitar!  Have you used the 510s?  The 918e I played had the 21:1 510s on it. While silky smooth just took FOREVER to tune the guitar up a half step( they had it tuned down a half) felt like all I was doing was cranking and getting nowhere fast.  I had thought about it for my 816CE but now after actually using them-- NOPE thestock tuners are just fine and I save money.  If a person was playing and doing down tunes on low E in a middle of a song forget using the 510s with 21:1.  just not quick enough.

There 15:1, 18:1 and 21:1 ratios available in the 510 series. See page 5.

While the high end Taylors use the 21:1 ratio gotoh if I would go with the 18:1. no need for that high a ratio for tuning unless you like cranking forever to barely move the pitch.  I have electrics with 15:1 and they tune just fine and hold tune equally fine.

The Gotoh 21:1 are really nice if you use a tuner that tunes to 1/100 cent like a Peterson strobe tune.

Oh that is a nice one SkyHigh.  The grain is very nice, I really like the maple binding on these.
