zeebow, you and your wife are a very cute couple! Congratulations even though it's been over a year since your wedding. Do you still have the guitar that you played in the video? How does it compare to your 914ce? I actually prefer the tone of ovangkol to rosewood--I think becase I prefer having more mids present.
Playing and singing for your wife was an incredible gift to share with her as well as with all your guests! Nice job, and thanks for sharing it with us!
thanks cindy, i was reluctant to post it, b/c i'm a perfectionist. it bothers me that it wasn't the best.
i still have the 414ce, b/c it has so much sentimental value. it was made on 8.9.10, which is the day we got our marriage license. our wedding ceremony was held a year later (this video) on 9.10.11
lol so here are my number stories:
7.8.9 - proposed
8.9.10 - marriage lisc.
10.10.10 @ 10:10am - held traditional engagement ceremony
9.10.11 - wedding ceremony
i fell in love w/ the 414ce's sound as soon as i played it...seemed like it was "made" for me, since the build date matched such a significant date in our relationship.
to answer your question, the 414ce is louder than my 914ce. my 914ce does have a cedar top, so i'm not sure if that is why it seems less audible. however, the cedar really pulls in the warmth and mids into the mix...i got the idea after playing a 714ce (cedar top and rosewood sides), but i wanted more appointments than the 714ce offered.
today, i prefer the darker tones of the 914ce, i like the additional "body" that the tone brings. i get frustrated by the lack of lows in the 414ce now. i'd say the highs are similar, but the lack of low end makes my 414ce sound very bright in comparison.
depends on the song really...on upbeat, peppy songs, i find myself going for the 414ce...but slower, more intimate songs, i prefer the 914ce.
what i've been doing is keeping them in different alternate tunings, so i can learn/practice different songs in a single time frame. have to justify keeping two, ya know?
