New guy from Santa Fe...Texas that is
« on: November 01, 2012, 05:54:20 PM »
Hello everyone. My name is Frank. I own several guitars but my favorite acoustic has to be my 814CE. Serial Number says she was built in 2001. Cedar top and sounds so nice. I'm actually thinking about purchasing another Taylor.
I played in a band for many years and enjoyed most of it. Now, I'm married to a wonderful woman, I have three great babies(kids) and most of my performing is done for them.
I'm a drafter for a company in Galveston.
I like Golf and I do woodworking as hobby and I'm no luthier, but I love to tinker on guitars needing work or a little adjusting.

That's me in a nutshell. If you are in my area and would like to get together and play some, please contact me.

Franko

Welcome aboard, Frank!  Nice to see another Texas guy here.  We're about 400 miles south of you, at the other end of the Texas Gulf Coast.  Lots of nice folks here, and plenty of good information about all things Taylor.  I have learned a bunch in the 9 months or so I've been around here; been playing guitar a bit longer than that (moving up on 50 years faster than I saw coming).  Like you, since leaving the band days behind, I play for family most of the time (with an occasional outing).  I played all the time for our daughter when she was little... 40 years old isn't so little, but it doesn't seem that long ago.

If you are thinking about adding another guitar, you will get plenty of good advice here, free for the asking.  :)

Best wishes,
Captain Jim

Hi Franko. There's no shortage of 814ce players around here. Make yourself at home, get comfortable, and enjoy the site.

Wow! Hey thanks for the warm welcome everybody...seems like a pretty nice community. I've been doing a lot of reading here and have already found a ton of great information. I'll be here a lot! Hey Captain, where are you? I was born way further south in South Texas, just wondering if you were close to the old hometown.

Port Isabel/South Padre Island area.  You can't get much further south that we are and still be in the US.  ;)  Of course, folks from San Antonio think they are in "south Texas" - and that's about 6 hours north of us.   8)

'Tis a nice community here.  What model Taylor are you considering?

Oh yeah...I grew up in McAllen and we went to the island all the time! I'm thinking about either the Grans Symphony or the Dreadnought. I have a few dreadnoughts already so I'm leaning toward the GS, but I really love my 814...maybe another Grand Auditorium with different woods...I really just want one of each.

Ah, yes... I played a very nice 816 earlier this month.  Very nice.  So many guitars... I had gone for a lot of years without getting the urge to bring home another guitar.  Then, I found this place.  :)

You are going to fit right in.

Welcome.  The 814ce is what I like the best as well.

This is my first post. I love my 914CE and my 914C. I am also one of the few people on the forum who knows where Sante Fe is. I'm down the road in Houston.

I have an 815 CE if you ever want to play a jumbo.

Hi Frank.  I live in Pearland (just outside Houston) and play in a band in Galveston.  So I drive through Santa Fe frequently.  In fact, one of our regular gigs is at the VFW Hall in Santa Fe.  Nice bunch a folks there for sure.  And serious about dancin'!
