New guy, a Taylor virgin.

Hello from Duluth Minnesota!
I'm a 52 year old Taylor virgin....BUT....I have one on the way once the hurricane allows shipment.
I've gone thru many guitars over the years and made my living playing guitar for most of my 20s, 30s and 40s.
After a few years of hiatus from playing gigs, I've rediscovered my love of acoustics. My search for a new acoustic lead me to Taylor.

Initially, I ordered a GSce-FLTD 2012. It was a breathtaking instrument....just beautiful in every way. The only problem was that it uses medium gauge strings, and by the way, Taylor recommends sticking with the correct gauges to maintain factory performance etc.
My old hands can't handle those heavy strings any more....and I was very sad when I realized I would have to send her back. Very sad.
I have a misguided post in a thread called Fall Ltd if you wish to hear all the details on that GAS incident.

Moving forward, I have decided on going with the flagship 814ce in tobacco sunburst. I found a 2012  model that is a scratch n dent unit for far less than the going rate. Worst case scenario is that the dent or scratch is unbearable and I send it back. My hope is that it is a battle scar that will enhance it. They were about to ship it out of NJ when the hurricane struck yesterday so the guitar did not ship out yet.  I'm thinking if I actually get it and keep it, I will have to name it Sandy, right?

 Hi MB. I'm relatively new to the Taylor brand myself. It definitely sparked my passion again. I don't see how you can go wrong with a 814ce, especially a TSB 814ce.  Congratulations.

 I think Sandy would be a great name for your guitar. Anyhow, make yourself at home and enjoy the site.

Welcome MB, I have a 814ce and will tell you it is the best shape, size, and string guage for me as well.  Personally I don't see how you can go wrong with your new Sandy.

We on the gulf coast know what you are going through with Sandy. We were without power for nearly three weeks after Ike a few years ago. But hopefully it will bring the community together

Well the dust has settled and I have my 814ce tobaccoburst at last!
It ended up being a scratch n dent unit off AMS web site for almost $x off retail!
When the guitar arrived, it took me almost 2 minutes to find the offending "dent".
It was so small that it doesn't even show up in pictures! It was on the bottom of the back and just a tiny mark.

This is an awesome guitar guys. The neck is a bit wider than my Martin so it is a bit harder
to play certain things for me but it is also "roomy" giving my old fingers more space in which to operate.
The finish is breathtaking and the neck is perfect. I've already gone thru 2 sets of strings and learned
a bunch of Christmas songs in finger-style jazz. I am super excited to finally own one of finest instruments on the planet!

I'm going to try and attach a pic of her for you. This was taken right after I opened the case for the 1st time.

Lookin' good, congrats! Love the burst. I suspect you'll get hooked on the 1.75 nut width, after discovering Taylor it's become a lot harder for me to really love a guitar with narrower string spacing.

The top is pretty dark....it is beautifully dark! I bought it off the American Musical Supply web site. It shipped from their NJ warehouse during hurricane Sandy. Shipment was delayed  by several days because of the bad weather. AMS had this listed as a scratch n dent unit and I had a hard time finding the offending spec of an imperfection on the back. They knocked off a considerable amount for that! So got a good deal on top of a beautiful instrument.

Congrats!  Sounds like a great deal on a beautiful instrument.  When I opened the case on my 814ce with the tobacco sunburst, it took my breath away.  It quickly became my all-time favorite guitar.  Enjoy!
