Guitar feels "alive"
« on: December 20, 2011, 11:27:06 AM »
Sure the top vibrates, but the side/bout under one's arm, and the guitar back against my stomach and ribs ...there is a definite correlation in my mind to how the guitar vibrates in your hands and against your body and how much I like the tone.  I've noticed this over the years (with electrics, too), and it has always been one of those subliminal criteria for me when evaluating a guitar.  But I was really thinking it aloud last night playing my DN Custom.  I've never had a dred feel this "alive" ...Taylor or other marques' dreds.   Wow.  A guitar that moves is a guitar that moves me.

Anyone else as neurotic?  ...ok, maybe I stepped into that one.  Time for a cup o' joe. :)

Thank goodness I'm not the only one!  I've noticed that as well...that a well built guitar when played...literally vibrates with music.  My Alvarez did ok...but man...my GS8 is just alive!

Oh yeah.  That's what first drew me to my 816.  Digging into it, it felt like it wanted to take off and fly!  The definition of "good vibrations."

My RT2 certainly has that vibe.  It's wonderful.

being able to actually 'feel' what one is playing is one of the many aspects of acoustic guitar that i enjoy,
sort of like 'positve reinforcement' in a way in that the guitar seems that it is 'happy it is being played' :)

kind of like when one give their dog a belly-rub & one of its hind legs gets to kicking a little bit

maybe there should be warning labels on guitars that have exceptional projection -
CAUTION : Use of this product may result in possible RECOIL.
Please observe all safety regulations & use approved protective gear ;)

also, please keep your arms & legs inside while the ride is in motion :D

OK, so it's official then: we all need to form a support group!
...except that I don't exactly "suffer' from this condition ...I kind of enjoy it :D :D :D

would that be a 12 step or a 12 string program ;)

but seriously, the guitar is truly a 'living breathing thing' in that it is affected
by its environment (humidity/temperature), as well as by the person playing it ...
plus the scent of the wood (cedar & imbuia for example) is another aspect too

great thread, Edward :)

There is nothing like a guitar that feels alive in your arms. One of my favorite guitars is a vintage Martin 00-21 that just wants to vibrate of my lap, the string vibration can be felt throughout the whole guitar.

I'm in complete agreement.  It's an awesome thing when you strike a chord and you "feel" it.  It's hard to put into words, but I think you've done it.  Great post Edward

i most definitely know the feeling and love it!

had a john mayes jumbo once that was the king of this, the whole guitar weighed 3.5lbs and was a tone monster(unfortunately there was a scale length and ergonomic fit issue for me, but it was a killer guitar).

my recent 516 displays this attitude and has a "light feel" as well. weight wise it comes in at 4.5 lbs with battery and ES-i'm thinking light built feeling guitars expand this phenom to a degree.

love it, love it

I had never noticed my acoustic(s) vibrating until I got my 814ce.  I like it a lot being able to not only hear the wonderful sound, but to feel it as well :)
