saving up for a new taylor
« on: June 25, 2012, 11:29:42 PM »
Hi guys,

great forum! i've been lurking here for days now and finally decided to register. i've been playing since my teen years and now i'm saving up to buy my very first taylor. i'm from the philippines and currently playing with my bandmates since high school. nothing serious though, but we have played gigs along the way. it's just sad to see us all grown-up now and stuck with our jobs most of the time. practice sessions are even far in between nowadays.

i'm torn between an 814ce and a ga8. a big HI to everyone on the forum!
Best regards,
Nims

Hi and welcome to the forum! :) If you are gigging, why not consider a GA8e which is a GA8 with electronics but without the cutaway? (Hee-hee...like you need more choices!) ;)

Hi!

If you are gigging - hard not to want to ce model!  Though a ga8 is cool  (would be my 1st choice), quite sure you won't go wrong with the 814!

Good luck!

if ever i go to the direction of ga8, cindy, i'm going with the GA8e as well. I love the simplicity of the guitar plus it costs less  :D but i do need the cutaway since i also play on the high registers of the fretboard. mostly playing blues at home or with a few friends. thanks!

@jjrpilot - thanks!
@jmg257 - i see it below at your signature hehehe. if my budget allows me, i'm getting the 814ce!
@codeblueEMT - thanks as well!

Well, if you need a cutaway, you need to get the 814ce.  I have one and love it.  I think you will to.

The cutaway's the key. If you need it, you'll chose the 814ce. I don't like cutaways, so I'd do the GA8. You can add electronics and other nice options to a GA8, while still spending less than a stock 814ce. Check out Taylor's modify-a-model options list. You'll figure it out. Have fun!
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

@strumming fool - yeah it seems that i'm leaning more and more to the 814's for the cutaway. it will be very versatile for me singing and playing in my band, while also playing lead guitars when i'm with my friends just jamming blues stuff.

i can always get another one (w/o a cutaway) right? but for now, i need an all-around guitar to satisfy every need. again many thanks guys for all your suggestions!

Nims
