« on: March 08, 2012, 05:14:25 PM »
Will Taylor set up your BTO order to your specs(such as specific action at 12th fret) on a BTO guitar if requested? Not a big issue, just wondering.Thanks,M.S.

I was told no.  They set to factory standards based on what you order.

Dave,I just got confirmation back that the factory does not do custom setups.I checked before i saw your reply.Thanks.It's understandable, really,as there are so many factors(humidity, etc.) that can change very specific and minute setup details even as a guitar is in transit to the owner.I like incredibly low action which probably is a setup person's nightmare.M.S.

If you buy from The Podium, you get free setups for life.
Plus, they're just awesome to deal with all around.

No idea about a BTO. Last fall, I sent a "98 414 (old style neck) for a reset, told my rep where I wanted the action:5 and 3-4 64ths respectively with a minimum of 9/64' saddle out of the bridge between the G and D strings.Put a note between the strings as well. They nailed it.
Guitar sounds and plays fantastic!
Did I get lucky? Probably.
Could Taylor Techs do it again? Yup.

Its different with new guitars.  With service you can have them do pretty much anything to the guitar, with new ones they set to factory standard.  I think there is a method to this.  Until you play your new guitar you really don't know how it will play.  If you have them set it out of standard they may have to adjust the nut or bridge.  If you don't like the setup they may have to replace them to get the guitar back to where you want it.  So they get sent out within spec and you can have them adjusted anyway you want after you play it.

that makes sense -
i had a 09 716ceLTD that i had the bone nut & saddle upgrade done on a while after
i had it & i requested the same specs as Steve did on the 414 ... it was 'dead-on' :D

it's not about what you play,
it's all about why you play ...
