Florida says Hi!
« on: December 14, 2011, 04:50:55 PM »
OK been here for a few days now (there ONLY have been a few days), and I'm finally getting around to my formal announcement.

OK here goes. I'm 67 years old and been playing steady for about 10 years. Mostly home stuff and family get togethers for backyard jams.

I've done some outside gigs at Alternative Music/Lifestyles festivals and really enjoyed it. I hope to have the opoportiunity to do more.

Semi retired with a small advertising/direct mail/and internet studio that my wife and I own here in Sarasota Florida where we have lived for the last 20+ years.

I've been a Taylor fan since I bought that first 512 for my wife many years ago. Since then I've owned the following Taylors which have found loving homes elsewhere: 355, 410, 712, 712ce, 812c, GC5, GA6, GC4. Currently I'm down to my '94 612c Quilted Maple and my 2010 Custom all mahogany GC. As you can see from my sig. I also have a softspot for almost any kind and any brand of small body acoustic.

I'd just like to add my heartfelt thanks to Josh for starting this forum, just when the "other place" was looking like a lost cause for us Taylorites. Josh, thanks for having me and all the rest of my old and new friends.

Welcome, Gary! Neat to hear you like the GCs also. I have recently fallen in love with Mahogony guitars so I hope you are able to post some photos of your guitars here for us to see sometime  :)

Hi Gary, it's an honor to have you and so many others join this new forum/family.  Glad you like it!  Pull up a chair and relax!   ;)

Thanks John,

Although I do have a couple of Rosewoods and one Maple, Mahogany always has that special place in my heart.
I just took delivery of an Eastman E10-OM - Adirondack/Mahogany. Not a Taylor, but a very nice Mahogany small body with a huge voice.
I'm still getting used to that "non-Taylor" sound, however.

Hi Gary, I'm a Florida girl.  Born and raised in Hollywood (the other side from you).  Used to go to concerts at the Hollywood Sportatorium - gone now, all condos.

Anyway, I get down to Ft. Lauderdale from time to time and I know there is a group over on AGF that has get-togethers in FL.

Welcome to the UTGF.

Hi Cindy.........yup, addictive. I quit smoking about 20 years ago, but I've yet to be able to "quit" Taylors.

Hi Gary! Thanks for writing up your bio. I noticed you are from the west coast of Florida. We vacation at Bonita Beach (just north of Naples) every year and also come up to Anna Maria Island, which I believe is in your neck of the woods. When we are on vacation, we hit an open mic almost every night. The ones we go to are run by a gal named Nita Flores who coordinates these very high quality open mics all over southwest Florida. In case this is of interest to you, here is her website with the open mics listed;

http://www.swflmusic.com/

I know she has some folks who come down every week from Sarasota, so maybe you already know about this, but thought I would pass it along in case it's of interest.

Also, good to meet another 612 owner! Welcome, Gary  :)

U sure it's that addictive? I haven't own one yet but as soon as my finance allows me, I'm getting one. Don't know what model will be yet. What do you think, sir? :)
