1999 414

Broke out the old 414 for some much needed cleaning. After 21 days of my son playing it in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico(oil rig),I expected the strings to be shot. They are quite frazzled in numerous places, but still sound good.
Late last summer, Taylor did a neck re-set and nailed it. They put my requested strings(EXP19),at my requested action(5-6/64 @12),w/all the saddle possible above the bridge. This one was done by a pro.The nut is the best I've seen in quite a while, every string breaks completely on the saddle & the end result is IMHO the best all-around guitar in the shop.Great loud, balanced tone w/ overtones and harmonic string vibrations that that just keep singing when fingerpicked.A flatpicking monster also. Here's a few pics.

Nice guitar there Picker!  Glad to see it no worse for wear having come back from the middle of the ocean.  Curious knob you've got there where the Expression System knobs would be.  What's the story on that?  Is that your mod?

Thanks . I don't worry about them when they're w/him.He's been playing Taylor and Martin guitars since he was 13(20 yrs).
 I installed a JJB electronics 3 transducer-bridgeplate passive w/volume/endpin jack. sounds great pre-amped w/LR Baggs gig pro.
I used the 20mm size, but I believe the 15mm would be more than sufficient w/this particular guitar. The only thing is you don't really know until you glue them in. They sound different w/2 sided tape.I personally prefer to glue them in w/high quality super glue gel.
It also sounds good w/out the pre-amp,better control w/it.
