WATCH IT...
« on: February 17, 2012, 07:04:40 PM »
Anyone here into watches?

I've got a little bit of a jones for them, myself. Just wondering if there were others...

Great topic!  I love watches...but my collection is almost zilch.  I've got an old Fossil...that I love...I've had it for 8th grade...still looks great.  My nicest watch is a black Swiss made Movado.  8)

My addiction's a little worse than that. I think I'm at around 26 pieces right now...

What do you have?

A bunch of low-end stuff that, quite honestly, I don't even wear anymore (Invicta Swiss and the like).

There are really only four watches I wear regularly:

Oris Williams F1
Zeno (actually not sure of the model)
Ball Engineer Master II Aviator
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean (45mm) - this is my grail and, as such, is worn the majority of the time.

I've been thinking about selling off the Invictas but, truth be told, there just doesn't seem to be a market for them...

Yup. I have always loved wristwatches. I have about a dozen, all of which I wear with some regularity. I absolutely agree with Left Coaster on the Omega Seamaster (wearing it now). Much nicer (to me) than a Submariner I used to own.

Most of my business watches are Citizens of various types although I still enjoy wearing a couple of Seiko chronographs that are over 30 years old.

Can't afford to be a collector but I have two lovely watches.

The pocket watch is 22carat gold and was my great grandfather's. I paid £400 to have it repaired and restored last year, then a few months later it slipped out my hand when I was winding it and it is now non-functional again  :( (too embarrassed to take it back to the horologist)

the Omega was a treat to myself when I retired and is my day-to-day watch.

I like the look of a nice watch, but... after we retired, I put my watches away.  A matter of principle, I imagine, since I lived by a schedule for so many years.  After 5 years, I've started wearing a watch again (I got tired of looking at my phone to see what time it was  ::)).  Our daughter bought me a nice Seiko for my last birthday, and I kinda felt I should wear it.   :)

Where does the time go?

I have a 1966 Omega Constellation that belonged to my father, a 1970 Omega Geneve Dynamic that my father gave me for my 17th birthday and an Omega Seamaster chronometer that my wife bought me in 1997. These watches require maintenance every 3 to 5 years and in the case of my Seamaster, which has to be sent to one of two service centers in the East, the charge is more than $XXX. I've always liked self-winding mechanical watches but I can't see spending so much on routine maintenance. For less than the cost of the Seamaster's maintenance fee, I can buy a superior Citizen Blue Angels Skyhawk A-T watch which is much more accurate and is powered by light so, like a self-winding watch, it needs no batteries or winding. It uses radio transmissions from atomic clock stations to continually calibrate itself to the exact time. No watch is more accurate. My Omega Seamaster will be retired when I buy that Citizen watch.

I have  Bolex that I bought in China and a pair of Tug Heuer his 'n her watches that I bought in Kuala Lumpur.
Think I paid almost $XX for all of them!

And, no, there's no typos involved in the above brand names! ;D

These are my three faves:

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean:

Oris Williams F1:

Ball Engineer Master II Aviator:

I lean heavily towards larger watchs (40mm or bigger), but I do have an Edouard Lauzieres, which is a 38mm, that I wear for dressy occasions. This was a limited edition made for a watch forum. This one is #30 of 30:

I just love my Paticake Phillipe. It has real diamonds according to the guy who sold it me. Such a deal.
