Beveled Arm Rest / ES1?
« on: September 20, 2023, 04:47:15 PM »
Does Taylor have any production models that had the Beveled arm rest before the Es2 same out.  I have the ES1 and I'm quite happy with it.  I have heard some less than encouraging things about the ES2......but I REALLY want the beveled arm rest.

I believe the answer is no. Taylor started the arm rest only a few years ago and the ES2 has been standard for a while.  ES2 has a few iterations as well although I'll let others here speak to that if they wish.

Your answer though, might be to simply order one without electronics:

I must disagree with SDTaylorman.  My 2011 R.T custom has an arm bevel and an ES1.3.

The bevels definitely predate the ES 2.

I think the bevels first started about 2005 or 6.

Maybe call Taylor Support and inquire!

Good luck on the search

And this is why I posted "I believe". Falsely apparently...thanks Paul.

Also why I usually post the following response to any such question:

True about the RTs, Paul.  But ya gotta remember that Taylor "production models" ain't RT.  As far as the mothership offering bevels on their line guitars prior to the ES2 years, this does get confusing because ES 1.3 and ES2 overlapped a bit, depending on the models and years, in the early 2010s.  To my recollection, there was a model or two with a bevel back then, but I couldn't swear to it. :)

I actually believe I remember this….  Hahaha

The bevels happened on regular and R. Taylor at about the same time.  At first they were only on the GS/RT1 size.

I ordered my RT2 12 fret cutaway when they finally started offering the bevels on Grand Concerts, in 2011.

As soon as I saw the presentation series with the first beveled GC I asked Tim Luranc to make Bob let RT do the same. I knew they had the tooling going next door.

Fortunately someone else wanted the same thing, so with potential orders for two, the RT style 2 got the option for the last year or so they built RTs.

The bevels were happening on the GA and GS well before 2011.

Happy hunting

Paul
