The 210 and the AD17...go!
« on: May 19, 2023, 01:35:50 PM »
So I am wondering what your thoughts are between the "old dred" that is the 210 vs the new shape and build that is the AD17 (remember, the AD not the GP).

I own one of them (ain't sayin for the sake of this discussion), but have only little experience with the other.  I'm interested in what you folks think, your thoughts of both if you can, and perhaps where you "landed" between these two models in terms of tone and voice.  Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Comparing two very specific guitars will limit the potential for comments.  I have not owned either, so have nothing salient to contribute.

The closest I can come is comparing an older 410 and my 114ce, both more than a dozen years old.  I have played a couple of AD17 and GP / x17 guitars in my local store (the 517 seemed really nice) but neither were seriously on my radar for acquisition.  My only thought is that the Grand Pacific models seems to "play well" and be tailored for V-bracing, perhaps more than other body shapes.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby

Yeah, I know, it's a narrow question, to be sure.  I was simply wondering about the old dred in 200 form vs the GP in modern v-braced form, and what folks' impressions are.  Not shopping, per se, as I very much dig what I have, and my 210dlx is a fabulous backup or "campfire" (so to speak) guit!  I noticed that the AD17 is roughly the same street price used as 210s so was musing aloud, and seeing if I can elicit opinions from the GP crowd.
