Taylor American Dream Series
« on: December 07, 2022, 06:57:53 PM »
So I am looking at my second Taylor and looking at the American Dream series.  Seems like a lot of positive reviews but I thought I may get some opinions from anyone who owns one to see what you think.

I was reading reviews on one side and they were all good but one and the guy said it sounded like a unplugged strat and would never satisfy anyone if play unplugged.

Any opinions on these?

Thanks.

Hi tsfrance.  I have an American Dream AD22e grand concert with mahogany top, sapele b&s.  Plays great, (no surprise there) and has a balanced warm tone.  It is my current gigging guitar.

I was looking at a GTe mahognay and next to it was a AD22. I really had a hard time choosing between the two, but in the end I went with the GT. In other words......I call Bullhocky.

I have only played these in stores but while I did not spring for one and wasn’t really looking for another guitar at the time, I found they sounded great and provided another possible voice from the Taylor lineup. The reviewer played one with an issue if they had played one at all.

My AD17e is a little over 2 years old now and it plays and sounds fantastic.
I bought it new, online from MF have never regretted the purchase.
It was a little bright sounding with the stock Elixirs and after trying several different others, I've settled on Martin Monel Retros.
They balance everything out quite nicely.

Delayed response from me.

The AD17e is a fine guitar. There is a new sunburst version with walnut backing, like the blacktop. I still like the way the ovankol model sounds better…

I own an AD17e blonde, and used to own the AD27 mahogany, which is also a fine guitar. I like the 17s better.

My favorite thing about the whole series is that they a so playable. The guitars don’t fight you.
