I love my Taylor 414ce-LTD Fall 2011 Limited Rosewood 400 Series as My Dread, 327e.. I love the smooth neck and sound of the spruce , rosewood of the 414..I also love the sound of the 327e, however I am not crazy for the 327e neck and am doing alot of stumming ...Blue grass and such so Im looking at Taylor 810e-LTD 2011 / never used L.R.Baggs ...not a deal breaker.. I want Spruce top Braz Rosewood B/S... I do Like the Tazmanian Blackwood on 327e.. I really am looking for a dread w/ Rosewood same style neck as 414-LTD and close to same sound...Brilliant highs and long lasting lows that the Rosewood and Blackwood give..Also the 810e has the Gotoh tuners which I love.. What would you choose...Any issue that anyone know on 2010 810e or can I have some suggestions on what model ...Thx ahead of time

1. I love the gotoh 510s.  But you can put those on any guitar so don't make that your decision maker unless it's a real dead heat and that's the tie breaker.

2. The 810 is a great guit, esp from 2011, and that it is an LTD means it's got special other appointments/wood choices not regularly on the menu.  Which Baggs system as they have some old models that were good for the day but now passe.  If it's an Anthem or Anthem SL, then these are genuinely good and gig worthy.  This series 810 will likely be most in the tonal family of your 414, albeit with bigger bottom and thicker-sounding mids.  And it is this thicker, more forward mids-voice of the pre-Powers DNs that I prefer, so this gives you an idea of my tonal bias.

3. The GP guitars have their own thing going on: you like it enough, or you stick to their DNs.  I like the GPs, but not enough to unseat my superb DNs.  I've yet to meet a GP that was better than my '08 DN, so that's my preference, which may not be yours.  But heck, you asked! :D

Edward

4. Taylors don't have any inherent "issues" or years or model "to avoid" so no worries there.

FWIW my 2001 414ce bought new and the 2002 410 that I picked up used (both with ovangkol back & sides) always did just fine at any jam, including bluegrass.  I often compared the 410 to a typical D-18.  I loved those 400's so much that I never worked my way up into the 800-series.  The only reason they are gone now is because jam friends really liked them too, and caught me in weaker moments while I was in a serious "thin the herd" mood.

You really can't go wrong with an older 810, IMHO.  Edward's other points are fully valid too.  I was always happy with my 414's Fishman pickup that pre-dated the conversion to LR Baggs, but I have a couple of guitars with Baggs p/u too.  It sounds like you might not use the electronics that much.

Did the 800's ever use BRW?  I thought that might have been a 900-series thing....
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby

Thx to all who responded...V good info ..I am also looking @717e Builders. Its either 717e Builders w/ Taylor Warranty or used 810e w/no Warranty..Even though I love the 327e GP sound, I am not crazy about the neck . It does give me a diff sound, love the tonewoods used..IMO the GP's seem a bit cheaper feeling...Usually I have dealt w/Wildwood in past, now dealing w/SW & Chicago....Thx for input all..
