2004 914 label question
« on: January 04, 2020, 11:33:29 PM »
I ran across a 2004 914ce online and asked the owner to send me a pic of the label, and it says 914, not 914ce, even though it clearly has a cutaway and electronics. Were they labeled differently 15 years ago?

Not certain myself but I can tell you my recently purchased Taylor from 2016 says the model is a Custom GA, but it has the cutaway and the ES-2 pickup.

That is strange. I would think it would have the "ce" on the label.
FWIW (like FF's comparison), my 2002 414 (that does NOT have a c or an e) label only says "414". It appears that they've made that distinction on the labels all along. Why that label you have a picture of didn't say "ce" is weird.

A couple guesses:
The label you have a picture of was inaccurate right from Taylor (maybe provide the serial number to Taylor and get the specs of the guitar straight from them.)

The label you have a picture of has been tampered with, for whatever reason.

I have a feeling that this has come up before and that it might just be a fluke situation.  On the other hand it could be a conterfiet Taylor.

I'll definitely be asking the Taylor folks about this. In the meantime, I bet there's a thread or two on here about counterfeit guitars.

Just to settle this, I did talk to Taylor and was told that this guitar was ordered as a 914, and the cutaway was added on as an option. So instead of a 914c, it's a 914 with a cutaway. Funny I know, but that's straight from the source.
Bottom line: I then pulled the trigger and bought it. Will be happy to post pics hen it arrives.

Good deal. I'm anxious to see the pictures of it. I love, love my 914!
