May God bless all the men and women lost in the Pear Harbor attack

God bless all the veterans and men and women currently serving in the US armed forces who protect the freedoms we enjoy today.

Amen.  If anyone has a chance to visit the USS Arizona memorial, I highly recommend it.  A very solemn and moving place.

indeed,  the entire memorial park is worth going to.  I did that last April and it was the highlight of entire trip.

Thank God for all those who place their lives at risk in the defense of our liberties, privileges and principles, which we sometimes take for granted . God bless America and lead her in the principles on which this country was founded!

A great post to remind us of the sacrifices made by the military men and women who served, and for those who are currently serving.

My late father-in-law was at Pearl Harbor assigned to the USS Rigel (a tender ship with no weapons at the time). It was on the other side of the harbor so wasn't attacked in the first wave.  Like so many other service men of that era, he didn't say much about it.

During my last trip to Aloha Music Camp in February 2009, we connected in Honolulu airport.  Waiting to board the plane was an elderly gentleman wearing a "Pearl Harbor Survivor" baseball cap.  Reluctant to intrude on his privacy, I still made it a point to go and quietly shake his hand, saying "thank you for your service" to him.  He brightened up.  Not many opportunities like that left..... and my flag has been flying all weekend in remembrance.

My father served in World War II. He would never say anything about it either, always deflecting any questions about his experiences. But I remember his shoulder patch, and later found that his unit served in France.

As a disabled Vietnam era veteran myself, I can attest that hearing "Thank you for your service" never gets old. Nor does it go unappreciated.
