Just had to do something to those plain chrome tunners I love the 510s so picked up a set of Mini gold with black buttons.
I installed them yesterday it was an easy swap out, did have to go buy a 1/16" drill bit to make sure the screws would thread good. I knew the gold and black would look nice against the maple.
Tunners from Luthiers Mercantile Int. inc, lmii part # GGM6GSBMC
So at same time I work the tunners I got carried away and fabricated a new nut, I had a used right hand 1 3/4" standard Taylor nut laying around , so decided to try it . it's a very close fit but it does make it . You have to sand down of each side of the nut to make it fit , and after a try out, I had to pull the low E string slot a tad inward,(pics before the adjustment) Perfect now!. Im happy with the job I did. Kept the standard one to swap back some day maybe.
Had a extra bone saddle laying around also and thought I'd try it out . The result in the lower nut height and lower saddle high.
subtracted some of the minis boom and volume , but not by much, it plays easyer now and thats what i was after.
Took before and after pics of the head stock. I recomend these tunners, there beautiful!

Looks very nice...you did a super job. Thanks for sharing. We should start a thread on GSM upgrades, to see what people are doing to these wonderful/fun guitars.

The tuners look great, but man are those E strings right on the edge of the fret ends.

Yes their close the high e has no problem at all, the low e string did occasionally roll off , so I opened up the string slot and pulled it inward a tad . I think thats why I had this spair nut , that slot was a bit wide before. Now perfect no roll off and it feels natural. I think the medium strings tension helps out too. After are summer humidity go's away I'll go back to the higher saddle.

This is very interesting. Nice job, for one. I replaced the tuners on my 514 with Gotohs and am planning to use the Taylor tuners on the mini. I'd love to put a 1 3/4 nut on there, too. I didn't understand the alteration you made on the low E slot. It was already wide? Or you made another slot in it? Or altered the existing slot? How do you keep the string from falling back into the original spot if you used the existing slot?
Anyway, once again, very nice job and I'm sorry for being slow on the uptake. ;)

The Nut was removed from a past guitar, The low E slot was a wider spacing than the other, It was a problem child in the begining.
I just filed the slot wider to the inboard about 1/64" , no second slot. Wala

Well done! The E and e still look close for me, but heck, if it works, it works!

Nice color combination. Of course the 510 will work very well. The black buttons are a nice touch.
My observation is that the E & e are pretty close to the edge of the fingerboard, but it must feel ok. ;)
