Title: Member locations
Post by: flaggerphil on December 10, 2011, 11:55:04 PM
Is there any way we can display member locations on member's posts?  Or is that something most people don't want?

go to profile, modify profile & then to forum profile -
there is a place for location

to see someone else's location, i think you need to click
on their user name & view profile for it to come up

for it to show up on a post, i suppose it could be listed
either under personal text or in one's signature line

Yep.  I was just wondering if there was a way they could work it out so it would show on the posts like your avatar.

I'd like to know the general place of residence such as thier State or if the member desired, their city of residence.  It would be interesting to have an idea as to where our membership is from when we read their post(s).  Just my opinion though.

Yesterday I considered starting a thread asking those who would to tell us all where they were from.  I'll state in this thread I am from southern West Virginia.

As a temporary solution, you can list your location either in your Signature or your Personal Text (which is what I chose) section of your profile. You should be able to modify your settings at this link if logged into your account:

Thanks for the information Cindy.  I changed mine to reflect my location in the "Personal Text".  Simple and easy it was.  I have to admit I just did not think about that section when I first signed up :)

Putting it in the personal text is a good interim idea.  Think that's what I'll do.

I am about fifteen minutes outside of nowhere.

Not really as bad as that, but I have to drive over an hour to see any guitar stores with Taylor inventory.  It could be worse.

Is it possible to have a feature that shows where we all are on a map?  I have been to other forums that have this feature.  When you select your location a "pin" is placed and then you can pull up the map to see where everyone is.

I'm pretty sure I got a meth lab no less than 10 miles in any direction from my place.

are they yours ???

if they are, i'd think you'd want to be more certain of their locations ;)

just kidding :D

from the way you worded it, rather than 'I'm pretty sure there is',
i thought that perhaps maybe, quite possibly ...

sorry, bad joke
'lord, i apologize ...'

haha.  Yeah I see your point.  FWIW, I said "no less than 10 miles" because I refuse to live within 9 miles of one.  I got little ones in the house ya know.

Back to the lab...  :-X
