Other than Tommy Emmanuel? His tabs are a bit too hard for me, I need something a bit more simpler, but hopefully as melodic and nice as his music. Any recommendations appreciated. I enjoy players like Pete Huttlinger and Stuart Ryan but far too many tabs are in DADGAD, which I don't really want to start learning until I've mastered the fretboard for standard tuning.

I've been learning from him for several decades and thanks to copying his songs by ear have dropped the pick! If you know the CADGED system you'll put it to good use but not mandatory. He plays with a capo a lot all over the neck and I can't think of a single song he does in non-standard tuning. Half his tracks are often "meh" but the one's I like I play for months.
You probably heard of that James Taylor guy - he's a bit harder than Knopfler.

I play a lot of Piedmont ragtime and country blues instrumentals, al la Rev. Gary Davis, Mississippi John Hurt, and similar. I also play a number of songs by 70's singer-songwriters like Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, etc. A modern player like Chris Proctor works mostly in standard tuning, as does Leo Kottke in many cases. Laurence Juber plays in standard but also a lot in DADGAD, so you have to "pick your battles" there. Pete Huttlinger was a great guy and a great player too. I was fortunate to study with him for a week at a guitar camp before he passed. It took twelve advanced fingerpicking students sharing parts to do a credible imitation of Pete's arrangement of "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder.
For systematic leaning of technique I always recommend the Happy Traum / Homespun Tapes "Easy Steps" DVD's.

Look for Marco Cirillo on YT. Not as simple as he makes it look, but short pieces, usually 8 bars or so.
