First post and new Taylor GS
« on: February 25, 2013, 03:12:03 PM »
Hi new to the forum. I've been playing a Taylor 510 for 14 yrs. Fingerstyle‚ rock‚ even some
bluegrass. Amazing guitar that Ill never part with. Thought it was finally time for new Taylor
so I picked up an 716 ce with a cedar top a few.weeks ago. I mostly play fingerstyle these days
and this is the one that impressed me the most.

Thanks to the fine people at Tobias music in Downers Grove Il I was able to sample many different wood combos and body styles. Easily the best experience buying a instrument Ive ever
had. If your anywhere near the area you need to check them out. Sorry for shameless.plug.on my first post but these guys deserve it!

Congrats and welcome to the forum Ken. I think you will find some good folks here who love Taylors and love to talk about them. Would like to see some pics of the new guitar (and the old) if you can.

Good to have you here.

Love the 700 series. Someday I want a 12-fret 712.

Also, my friend has an older 510 and it's a stellar guitar.

Congrats and welcome!

I had a 510 and got rid of it, that was a big mistake.  Getting a rosewood after 14 years of mahogany, and spruce to cedar will be a big change for you, but you will enjoy it along side your 510.   Congratulations.

Thanks for the welcomes all.
Yes the 716 is quite a different voice than I'm used to, one of the reason I was drawn to it.

Taylor's ced/rw combo is magic, IMHO (my personal "if I only could only choose one" guitar choice).  Just a stellar tone, and far more versatile than many folks give cedar credit for.  Great compliment to you 510.  Welcome to the board and congrats on a solid addition to your stable :D

Welcome to the forum Ken.  Your preaching to the choir about the cedar/rosewood!  :) The GS (x16) with cedar/rosewood is the best sounding and playing guitar that I've owned (and that includes some excellent ones). The cedar has a deep, warm, and loud voice.. without much effort.. combined with the rosewood it is awesome. I hope you get to enjoy it for many years to come!
